Should I or shouldn’t I?

It all happened by accident, really. A few months ago we were chatting around the kettle at work, waiting for the water to boil for tea. One colleague said she had a baby shower and she really wanted to give something homemade to the twin boys, but she couldn’t really craft. I volunteered to make something, I was waiting to try out some patterns I’ve had for ages. I almost had to pull an all-nighter, but the bunnies I decided on came out great. So great, in fact, that I got three orders from the shower. And from that a few more. And from that one for FIFTY from a baby shop in Johannesburg. And from that an order from a baby shop in Stellenbosch. The magazine I work for, picked it up and wrote about it, which brought more orders. And so on and so forth.

So now I’m thinking, should I turn this into a little side business? It could never be big, this kind of handmade is just too time consuming for the money it generates. But while I’m thinking, here’s a picture of the bunny. Cute, inne? I need a name for the l’il slugger, and I’m thinking of customising each one with a bell or a heart or a handwritten letter sewn inside. Maybe a hat or a tie or an ear clip?

    1. I guess so… problem is that there are so many other things I want to make, that by the fifteenth time you crochet the same body part, you really want to hurl it all against the wall. (A little bit of ADD shining through.) I think I may have found a solution, however, I found a crochet group who may take over production, hosted by one of our local churches in aid of job creation. I hope it works out.

  1. Oh, I know all about the project ADD. I have a ridiculous number of projects going right now and 4 I’m dying to start immediately. I can see where making the same amis over and over and over would get painful and boring.
That sounds like an amazing solution. I hope everything works out with it.
